01 Apr 25 - April Fools Day Fundraising Quiz
The Friends of Portswood Rec are delighted to announce this year's fundraiser quiz evening. The date is Tuesday 1 April 2025, the time is 7.00 for 7.30 (finishing around 9.45) and the venue is Trago Lounge in Portswood. You can look forward to:
... while showing your support for the best Rec in town!
Entry is £5pp, collected on the night. We suggest teams of between 4 and 6. However, if there are just one, two or three of you, do let us know and we'll do our best to team you up with others also looking to form a full team. Please bring cash if you can for both the quiz and the raffle (otherwise there are ATMs in Sainsbury's, or Trago can offer cashback at the bar).
Pre-booking a table is strongly recommended using Trago's booking enquiry system. - do let them know in the requests box that you'll be there for the FoPR quiz. Please be ready to provide a card number. on confirmation. No money is taken up front; this is only in theory for a no-show. If your team is less than six, select the "6" option on the online form and use the requests box at the end to let them know the actual number.
Click here for the flyer in .pdf format. Tell your friends!
If you're planning to eat beforehand, you may want to time your arrival a little before 7. (Insider tip: as well as the standard menu, this is Tapas Tuesday at Trago.) We look forward to seeing old friends and new.
PS there's some very good news about developments in the play area, for which last year's quiz-goers made a significant contribution.
19 Mar 25 - Annual General Meeting 2025
This year's AGM will be held from 7.45pm at the Scout Hut, 44 Brickfield Rd, SO17 3AE. You can find the agenda, minutes and reports to read beforehand here.
We'll also be welcoming this year's guest speaker: Danni Grant from Southampton City Farm.
There'll be drinks (of the non-alcoholic variety) and light refreshments in the break.
We're hoping as many of our members will be able to join us, particularly with the opportunity to meet the Committee and find out more our achievements from the year just finishing, and plans for the year to come. Non-members are equally welcome of course. Please come and say hello in the break.
08 Mar 25 - Two community events in Bitterne
Chessel Bay Local Nature Reserve is on the eastern bank of the river Itchen, south of Northam Bridge. It's the only remaining long stretch of undeveloped, natural shoreline, with mudflats providing feeding grounds for wading birds and wildfowl. Litter is a major environmental problem, mainly brought in by the tides, and Chessel Bay's Friends now organise a twice-yearly litterpick. Info about the next session is on the poster, with more on the website.
And if you're crossing the river to Bitterne by train on Saturday, you'll certainly come face-to-face with the seed-swappers. Southampton Seed Swap is just what it says on the packet. Barter your surplus seeds, trade some gardening tips, and have a cuppa courtesy of the Art House Community Pantry., More details on the poster
